982 songs were sent to the Danish TV broadcaster, DR, for consideration for the 2016 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix! Those songs have been whittled down to just 10, we will find out the names of the Danish hopefuls on the 28th of January.
The songs will be announced on the Thursday (28th of January) with the official DMGP album being released the following day (29th of January). The Danish National final will be held on the 13th of February, where the 10 songs will fight for the title of Danish representative in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Danes have an amazing recent record when it comes to Eurovisions held in Sweden. Back in 2000 the Olsen brothers were 25/1 in the betting odds, but managed to persuade the televoters and jury members by gaining the most points and taking the contest to Copenhagen in 2001. The 2013 contest in Malmö saw the hot favourite, Emmelie de Forest and her song “Only Teardrops” set the scoreboard alight and brought the contest back to Copenhagen for the 2014 contest. The Danish broadcaster have stated they are “in it to win it”, so could this proud Danish tradition continue? We will have more of an idea on the 28th of January when the songs are revealed.
