Day 2 of rehearsals. Today we will continue making our way through the first semifinal’s roster, starting with the eighth act: “El Diablo” by Elena Tsagrinou.

Country: Cyprus (#CYP)
Act: Elena Tsagrinou
Song: “El Diablo”
Semifinal: First (18/05/2021)
Position in Running Order: 08/16

From that small segment however, you get the impression that Cyprus are doubling down on “El Diablo”‘s sultry strengths. Elena Tsagrinou is the STAR of the performance, providing stellar emotion and vocal work throughout. She’s supported by a quartet of scarlet-clad dancers. She herself is wearing a crystalline dress. A quick comparison can be made to Switzerland’s entry at the 2019 contest (“She got me” by Luca Hänni), as she provides the same vibe.

The act is more than just a quick dance routine, however. The Cypriot delegation have installed two giant mirrors (one on the ceiling, one behind Elena), playing with the mirror effects to duplicate Elina and her dancers. The act discharges near the end in a flurry of pyros.

Overall, Elina Tsagrinou delivered a strong performance that would give her the ticket to the finale, and likely a decent finish in the finale as well.
