‘Can you feel it?’ Lake Malawi is back!
Yesterday, the Eurovision 2019 artists released their newest single, “Spinning”. The song, co-written by Eurovision 2017 veteran JOWST, boasts all the indie-pop hallmarks and upbeat spirit that fans have come to expect from the Czech charmers, with a unique bass line and a bit of rapping thrown in to give their sound a new wrinkle. You can watch the official music video, directed and shot by a duo of female filmmakers, below:

The song is also available to stream on Spotify here.
This is the first single the band has released since 2020’s “Lucy”. That song, a tongue-in-cheek love letter to Eurovision 2019 host Lucy Ayoub, was the runner-up at Poland’s 2020 national final. JOWST was also on the songwriting team for “Lucy”, as was Eurovision 2018 3rd place finisher Cesár Sampson,
“Spinning”, the first single off of the band’s up-coming new album, was written over Zoom during quarantine. According to a post on the band’s Instagram account (see left), they were initially reluctant to compose music remotely. Luckily for them … and us, it worked out just fine!
Besides JOWST and the two members of Lake Malawi, co-writers on the track include Norwegian-based singer-songwriter YNGA and Los Angeles-based songwriter Shari Short.
Lake Malawi‘s current line-up consists of lead vocalist Albert Černý and bass and keyboard player Jeroným Šubrt. The band finished in 11th place at Eurovision 2019 with the song “Friend of a Friend”.
