Austria will pick its next representative in a big national final next year! This was confirmed by ORF general director Alexander Wrabetz in an interview with the newspaper Der Standard.

The exact format of the national final hasn’t yet been decided on. However, it’s already been mentioned that the selection period will take place between January and March. It is intended that there will be several live shows in order to determine the artist that will represent Austria on home ground. “There are already several exciting concepts,” said Wrabetz.

Despite their victory having been the result of an internal selection, ORF has often made use of national finals in order to pick the Austrian entry. From 2011 to 2013, Austria picked their entry within the scope of the show “Österreich rockt den Song Contest”. The only recent internal selection other than Conchita Wurst in 2014 was Eric Papilaya with his song Get a Life – Get Alive in 2007.

Conchita Wurst herself pointed out once again that she isn’t willing to defend her title. A few hours ago she appeared as a guest at the main ORF news programme Zeit im Bild 2. Watch the Eurovision winner talk about her thoughts regarding the host city and her future plans (in German) here!
