The Dutch representative for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Anouk, presented her song “Birds” today.

“Birds” is best described as dark and haunting.  So it comes as a surprise to many, given that earlier into the 2013 Eurovision season, Anouk had promised a “killer song” to compete with all the other entries.  One would have suspected a more typical Eurovision style song.

One user on YouTube seemed to agree, stating, “This is just a smart attempt at the position of Adele. Anouk knows this will be heard by millions. What better way to promote her soon to be released CD all over Europe. She doesn’t give a crap about the festival. This is what’s marketing is all about. If she wanted to win the contest, she would sing a rock track.;)”

Then again, the fact that this is such a contrast to many of the other songs competing this year, it may have an edge.
