Little under two weeks after the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest came to an end, the European Broadcasting Union are preparing the second largest cong contest in Europe, Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Viewers of the Eurovision Song Contest will have noticed that a young girl named Gaia Cauchi performed some of her song ‘The Start’ in the grand final. This young girl was the winner of the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest for Malta.

Not only are the EBU busy organising the 2014 JESC, but here at ESCUnited.com, we are working hard to bring you the up-to-date news regarding the 2014 Junior Eurovision, which will be held in Malta Shipbuilding in Marsa, on the 15th of November 2014.

The theme for this years Junior Eurovision is #Together.

As of today, seven countries have confirmed their participation in the 2014 event:

  • Malta (host) will be represented by Federica Falzon.
  • Belarus have participated in every Junior Eurovision and will select their representative on the 29th of August.
  • Georgia are yet to announce the date of announcement.
  • Netherlands, the only other country to participate in every Junior Eurovision (alongside Belarus) will select their representative on the 27th of September.
  • Russia are yet to announce details of their selection.
  • Sweden will select their song on the 6th of June.
  • Ukraine will select their song on the 2nd of August.

In a press conference the Sietse Bakker stated that the EBU are working with a number of countries to make their debut in 2014 contest, as well as returning countries (Greece being one, we are awaiting official confirmation from NERIT). Potential countries to debut in the 2014 contest are Ireland, Iceland, Germany, Finland, and Italy.
