Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) released “To my Mom,” Georgia’s Junior Eurovision 2024 entry performed by Andria Putkaradze and composed by Giga Kukhianidze and Maka Davitaya, this past weekend.
Putkaradze, the winner of Season 7 of the popular Georgian kids talent show Ranina who hails from the Black Sea city of Batumi, shows off his powerful vocals in a sentimental piano ballad about a child not taking the limited time of youth and time spent with their mother for granted.
The bond between a child and mother has been an extremely poignant one for Georgia and Junior Eurovision this year, especially since Ranina runner-up Sandro Gurgenadze’s mother was diagnosed with cancer and GPB set up a fundraiser for her to receive treatment in Turkey.
“To my Mom” is co-composed by Kukhianidze, who has written 13 of Georgia’s 17 Junior Eurovision entries, including the three Junior Eurovision titles that Georgia have won: Bzikebi’s “Bzz..” in 2008, Candy’s “Candy Music” in 2011, and Mariam Mamadashvili’s “Mzeo” in 2016. Kukhianidze also wrote Iru Khechanovi’s “Echo,” Georgia’s entry for Eurovision 2023. Iru was one of the five members of Candy.
Maka Davitaya co-wrote the lyrics of “To my Mom” with Putkaradze. This year’s entry is entirely in Georgian despite the song title being presented in English.
Georgia will perform 8th at this year’s Junior Eurovision to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain. Putkaradze will hope that his ballad beats the 14th place of Georgia’s entry last year, Anastasia and Ranina’s “Over the Sky.”
