Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has announced, via ESCToday, that they will have a national selection show to choose their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen.
RTP will use the Festival da Canção format to choose their performer and song; Ten songs will compete in the semi-final on March 8, and after a public televote, the top five will go on to the final on March 15.
Portugal withdrew from the 2013 contest after financial constraints. The country has had a bout of bad luck in the contest, having qualified to the final only four times in its last ten appearances. Its best performance was back in 1996, with Lúcia Moniz’ “O meu coração não tem cor”.
Portugal will celebrate its 50th year at Eurovision, and fans agree that it’s high time they won. Will RTP choose a winner in March? Let us know what you think in our Portugal 2014 forum!
