Wild Youth 'We Are One"

The final six acts competing in Ireland’s internal selection Eurosong 2024 will be revealed the week commencing January 8th on the Ray D’Arcy Show between 16:00 and 17:30 CET on RTÉ Radio 1.

Michael Kealy the head of Ireland’s delegation in an interview with TikTok-er Adam Mc Callig revealed that a record 378 songs were submitted after this year’s call-out, where a jury narrowed it down to just six songs.

The date and exact format of how songs will be presented and a winner selected has yet to be confirmed. Yet as Kealy suggested in another interview for Eirevision podcast due RTE’s current financial woes there will not likely be a stand-alone Eurosong show. The selection is likely follow the same format of 22 and 23 were the songs were performed as part of RTE’s The Late Late show, where results were determined by a jury and public vote.

Ireland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and shares a joint record total of seven wins with Sweden. It is the only country to have won three times consecutively, 1992 to 1994, with 92 winning in Malmo, Sweden with Linda Martin’s ‘Why Me’. Ireland has struggled at Eurovision of late, qualifying just twice in the last 10 years. Last year’s entry by Wild Youth failed to qualify, their song ‘We Are One’ finished 12th our 15th in their semi-final with a total of 10 points.
