Earlier this month, the submission window for the German national final was extended by one week to October 15th; now that it has closed, NDR have confirmed that almost 700 submissions were received!
There were 693 unique contributions submitted, with 572 entering at least one original song. 121 people applied without an original song, which was allowed this year and keeps the door open for NDR to potentially match a talented vocalist with a song they already have, if they choose. Though most of the applicants were solo artists, there were 71 duos and 127 bands in the mix.
The German broadcaster will now focus on reviewing and evaluation all of the applications. In September, we reported that Eurovision songwriting legend Ralph Siegel was working on a song with German singer Aileen Sager. It was also reported that singer Alexandra Hoffman had submitted a song with Jørgen Olsen of the Olsen Brothers. The Olsen Brothers won Eurovision 2000 for Denmark with “Fly On The Wings Of Love“, so it seems we have at least two former participants in the running this year!
Das Deutsche Finale 2024 will air on February 16 from Berlin.
