This year Denmark was represented by Reiley, who despite not qualifying for the grand final did accomplish something: he was the first Faroese artist to perform at Eurovision.
And now a conversation has emerged about whether the Faroe Islands should join the contest and compete as an independent nation. Their national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) has indicated that they are once again interested in participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, an interest last expressed back in 2018.
Sirið Stenberg, Minister of Culture for the islands, believes that the performance has helped to renew calls for the Danish region to participate. According to Eurovoix, The Faroe Islands is self governing in almost all areas and is per definition eligible to become an EBU member.
Should KVF be successful in gaining membership in the coming months and prior to the deadline to express interest to the EBU, there is a possibility that they could participate as early as Eurovision 2024.
The conversation comes just after Luxembourg announced their return for the 2024 contest after being absent for over 21 years.
