Eurovision may be headed to Liverpool next month, but Hollyoaks is headed to Eurovision!
Though the British soap’s titular village is a fictional suburb of Chester, Hollyoaks is filmed at a studio in Liverpool. To celebrate the arrival of the contest to The UK’s shores for the first time since 1998, producers of the Channel 4 program are pulling out all the stops … including recruiting a British Eurovision legend for a cameo appearance.
According to an exclusive report from The Daily Star, Eurovision veteran Sonia will be appearing in a special Eurovision-themed episode sometime next month. The Liverpool-native, who finished 2nd for The UK at the 1993 contest, will be performing her entry, “Better the Devil You Know”, in scenes shot at Eurovision Village.
“I’m playing myself and we filmed in the EuroVillage so I enjoyed that,” the 52-year-old pop singer said in an interview with Liverpool Echo.
Also appearing as himself will be Scott Mills, the Radio 2 DJ who will be co-hosting the color commentary during this year’s semi-finals.
Hollyoaks premiered on Channel 4 in 1995 and has been one of the most popular British soaps for much of its run, winning Best British Soap in both 2014 and 2019. Sonia is celebrating the long-delayed release of her 4th studio album, Love Train – The Philly Album, after its initial launch was scrapped in 1998. This remastered version of the album is being released by Energise Records to celebrate the 3oth anniversary of her Eurovision success. The record is available for preorder, though the record’s title track is available now.
