Our next interview ahead of Melodifestivalen will feature twins Marcus and Martinus, who will compete in the Swedish national selection for the first time.

The twins are most known in Norway as the winners of Melodi Grand Prix Jr. back in 2012 with their song “To dråper vann” which peaked at no. 8 on the Norwegian Singles Chart at the time. Since then, they have taken all of Europe by storm, performing a number of concerts and tours and also winning the Artist of the Year Spellemannprisen award in 2017. The Spellemannprisen are the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards and to date they are the youngest artists to win the AotY award. Outside of music they enjoy spending time together gaming, going on nature walks, and playing with their dog.

Welcome to ESCUnited.com Marcus and Martinus, we’re thrilled we were able to grab you ahead of Melodifestivalen! How are you doing throughout this crazy process?

Hi : )  We are doing just great. And we are looking very forward to standing on the stage and performing our song for the Swedish people!!

In an effort to help our readers get to know you better, what is one thing someone would be surprised to learn about both of you? (like a hidden talent, hobby, fun fact, etc.)

We love football, but maybe you all know that. We have such beautiful nature where we live and Martinus loves to fish in the summertime for salmon and trout. Marcus loves to take Tico ( our dog ) out in nature<3

If you had to describe your musical sound and influences to someone who had never heard your music before, what would you say to them?

Our music is almost always good vibes and makes you wanna dance! So for the people that haven´t heard our music before, if you wanna get in a good mood, put on some of our songs. 😀

You’ve got a fair bit of competition experience from your win at Melodi Grand Prix Junior in 2012, growing up playing football, and having won the Masked Singer Sverige just last year. How do you both handle competitive environments?

We compete all the time in everything we do! That is how it is to have a twin brother haha <3 so we are pretty nervous for the Swedish melodifestivalen! It’s gonna be really exciting and we feel the nerves coming. But hopefully the Swedish people will like our song and performance.

You also had the opportunity to tour with Jason Derulo throughout Europe in 2018, what was that experience like? Do you have a funny story from the tour you’d like to share?

It was fantastic to tour with Jason Derulo. He is a great person, we had a lot of fun together. One of the things we did with him in our (small) freetime is that we had a football match against Jason and his dancers. It was a lot of fun <3

Now let’s talk about Melodifestivalen – what made you decide to compete in the Swedish Eurovision selection this year? Has a potential shot at Eurovision been a long-time dream for you both?

It all comes down to timing. After we won Masked Singer Sweden, was the time right for us to join the fantastic competition. We also have our management and PR company based in Stockholm and we also are signed with Universal Music Sweden.

So we are more in Sweden than in Norway now.

I noticed that you teamed up with Melfest all-stars Jimmy “Joker” Thornfeldt and Joy and Linnea Deb for your Melfest entry “Air”. What was it like working with this team to write your song, and how long did the songwriting process take?

We have worked with them before, we enjoy working with them. This time we had only four hours to try to make a song for Melodifestivalen. So we thought it would be too short a time to create a good song, but suddenly we had it. We would never join this competition if we didn’t feel like we had the right song. So we are very excited to show you all the song!

We won’t know anything about your entry “Air” or the staging concept until a few days before the heat airs on February 18th. What can our readers expect to see from you at Melfest?

We are going to give the audience a great show with a lot of lights and we hope the Swedish people will like it!

What comes next after Melodifestivalen? Any upcoming plans, performances, or music we should be on the lookout for?

We are releasing a lot of music this year and we are also planning an European tour, and also concerts in Scandinavia this summer. We want to visit fans and people in a lot of countries this year<33

In closing, do you have a final message you’d like to share with the readers of ESCUnited?

We would like to say that it is an honor to be a part of Melodifestivalen, and it would be even a greater honor if we could represent Sweden in Liverpool. We will give our best!! <3

Marcus and Martinus are set to compete during the 3rd heat of Melodifestivalen on February 18th at 20:00 CET. The top two songs out of seven will go directly to the final, with the 3rd and 4th ranked songs advancing to the semi-final round for a second chance. The winner of Melodifestivalen will win the right to represent Sweden at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
