‘Cha Cha Cha’ing into the UMK line-up is Käärijä. His song was released today and means we now know of 5 of the 7 competing acts of this years UMK.

He is an artist that even the Finnish find hard to describe. He is described as loving to break boundaries and test new things. After releasing his first album two years ago he is looking to break out of Finland at Eurovision.

He has been a fan of Eurovision since he was young and says that personally Verka Serduchka’s performance was memorable.

Having had music in him since school he became interested in rap in middle school. His debut single was released in 2016. In his music, he discusses a range of everyday things including adulthood and house parties.

Overall, Käärijä is looking to break onto UMK successfully after having wanted to do so for many years. He looks to combine Finland’s love of heavy rock and pop this year.

UMK’s selection board has once more released their reasoning for the selection of the artist;

“Is this Levi’s après-ski hit in spring 2023? In the Cha Cha Cha song, Käärijä combines rap, machine music, rock and pop in a unique way. The end result is really original, but at the same time really approachable, just like the artist himself. The song’s hook is one that everyone gets involved with the first time they hear it, and we dare to say that this is the hardest rap banger in UMK history. At UMK and Eurovision, there is always room for the craziest party, which this song nicely serves.”

We now only have two more songs left to hear this week before the UMK final on the 25th of February. These coming from the bands Kuuma and Portion Boys.
