Europe woke up today to news from Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), in that we now know the schedule for Supernova, Latvia’s national final format. A semifinal for the competition will air on Saturday, 4 February, with the final airing the week after on Saturday, 11 February. This bumps up the number of national finals scheduled to conclude on 11 February to seven. The show will be hosted by Ketija Šēnberga and Lauris Reiniks.

Further clarifications for the Supernova format were also announced, with both the semifinal and the final being 50/50 jury voting and televoting (with calls or SMS). While the songs will be first performed live next month, you don’t have to wait to hear the entrants.

LTV also released the 15 entries to this year’s Supernova, with bios detailing the entrants. There’s one ESC alum in the line-up, that of Justs, who performed for Latvia back in 2016. Other Supernova alumni include Inspo, Katrine Miller, Markus Riva, Raum, and Toms Kalderauskis. Several participants are also used to singing competitions, such as Patrisha with over sixty (!) vocal competitions under her belt. There are also some previous X-Factor Latvia contestants in the selection, namely Adriana Miglāne, Avéi, and Alise Haijima. Up-and-coming talent will also be on display from 24. Avēnija, Artūrs Hatti, Luīze, Sudden Lights, and Saule.

Latvia was last represented by Citi Zēni at Turin last year. Latvia finished 14th in the first semi-final with 55 points. The last time Latvia qualified for the Grand Final was back in 2016. Will the winning act for Supernova break the streak?
