Last week, the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS released the first song that’s in the running to represent The Netherlands at Junior Eurovision 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia. From now one, you can expect a new entry that will compete at the Dutch national final Junior Songfestival on Wednesday at 16:00 CEST. Let’s listen to the following act that just released their song a few days ago. This is Mixed Up and their JESC2022 entry “It Doesn’t Matter.”

About Mixed Up

Mixed Up exists out 2 boys (Sam and Joep) and 2 girls (Lois and Noor). They all auditioned seperately of each other, but were put together as a group after the finalists of this year national final were announced. This is a normal format what happens regularly in the Dutch National Final. Less is known about the singing background from the kids, however readers who followed the Dutch Voice Kids will maybe know Sam from his blind audition in the show in 2021. The official Youtube channel of Junior Songfestival will release a new video about the group to get to know them better.

Their Junior Songfestival entry ”It Doesn’t Matter” is written and composed by Jermain van der Bogt (better known as Wudstik) and Willem Laseroms and is about that it doesn’t matter who you are. The most important thing is that you have to be yourself.

The Netherlands at Junior Eurovision

The Netherlands is the only country that have participated in every Junior Eurovision Song Contest since it started in 2003. They won the contest back in 2009 when Ralf Mackenbach showcased his tapdancing skill on the stage in Kyiv with his song ”Click Clack”.

Some former JESC entrants even performed at the Eurovision stage when they became older: 2007 participants Lisa, Amy & Shelley performed as O’G3NE in 2017 on the Eurovision stage. Just recently in 2021, Stefania participated at the Eurovision Song Contest for Greece with her song Last Dance,” while back in 2016 she represented The Netherlands as part of the girlgroup Kisses at the Junior Song Contest.

Last year, The Netherlands was represented by Ayana and her song “Mata Sugu Aō Ne,” what means When I See You Again in Japanese. Sadly, she finished 19th in Paris with 43 points, giving The Netherlands their worst result at the contest yet.

Junior Songfestival

The Junior Songfestival has been used as their national selection since the start of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, except for 2016, when Kisses was selected internally to represent the country in Valletta. Since that year, the format changed a bit, with the auditors not to have to submit an original song for the contest.

This season 4 acts will compete at Junior Songfestival. This year there is one solo act, a girlband, a boyband and a mixed group in the running to win the Dutch national final. The acts are:

  • Luna –  ”La festa / The party”
  • Infinity (Eva, Kayleigh, Larissa, Lemay) – “Never Ever”
  • HIGH5 (Danny, Kaey, Luuk, Thijs, Thomas) – “Because I Know”
  • Mixed Up (Joep, Lois Noor, Sam) – “It Doesn’t Matter”

The 4 acts will compete in Live Final at the RTM stage in Ahoy Rotterdam on the 24th of September. The winner will represent The Netherlands at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex, in Yerevan, Armenia, on Sunday 11 December.
