Another day, more new names added to the mix. This time, it’s Austria’s turn to announce its Eurovision act.
Early this morning, on Austrian radio show Ö3 alarm clock, broadcaster ORF confirmed 19-year-old DJ and music producer Lum!x and 18-year-old newcomer Pia Maria as the artists selected to represent the country in Turin. Their song, “Halo”, described as ’90s-flavored dance pop, will be released in March.
Lum!x was previously rumored to be in contention for the Eurovison gig. Currently based in Milan, the DJ’s mentor is Gabry Ponte of Eiffel 65-fame, and the two have collaborated on several tracks. His music has been streamed across various platforms over 500 million times.
Pia Maria is a new name to the conversation, and a new name in general, as Eurovision will serve as her first official foray into the music business. She currently works as a certified makeup artist.
Austria is licking its wounds after last year’s Eurovision, finishing 12th in the second semi-final with Vincent Bueno‘s “Amen”. It remains to be seen whether this change in tone will serve the country better this year.
Are #YOU excited to hear what “Halo” sounds like? Do #YOU know anything about Pia Maria? She seems to have no Internet footprint, at first glance. Is this a ‘S1mone’ situation? Sound off in the comments below, in our forum, or on social media @ESCUnited.
