12-year-old singer Sona Azizova was announced as Azerbaijan’s Junior Eurovision artist in August. Since then, curious Eurovision fans have been waiting to see what The Land of Fire had up its sleeve. Well, wonder no more!

Today, the official Junior Eurovision YouTube account posted the official music video for “One of Those Days”, Azerbaijan’s selection for this year’s contest. The song is a moody power ballad, sung in both English and Azerbaijani.

The songwriting team behind “One of Those Days” is an eclectic mix of both international and domestic talent. Swedish singer-songwriter Maria Bromberg was a co-writer on Moldova’s 2019 Eurovision entry, Anna Odobescu‘s “Stay”, as well as a number of songs that competed at Eurovision national finals in countries like Lithuania and The UK. Music producer Martin Wiik is the co-founder of Stockholm-based Reflection Studios and had a co-writing credit on “Light On”, one of Monika Marija‘s entries in the 2019 Lithuanian national final. Hampus Eurenius is a jack of all trades. In addition to his songwriting work, including co-writing credit on entries at both Melodifestivalen and Dansk Melodi Gran Prix in 2020, he is a respected cinematographer. Francisco Faria is a Portuguese songwriter and music producer who has recently worked on songs with Eurovision 2020 artists Elisa and Ben Dolic.

The Azerbaijani lyrics in the song are the work of Sona herself, alongside celebrated Azerbaijani poet, rapper, and songwriter Javid Shahbazbayov.

As previously reported, Sona Azizova first entered the public eye on the inaugural season of The Voice Kids Azerbaijan. Her rendition of The Cranberries’ “Zombie” during the blind auditions impressed the judges, and three out of three of them turned their chairs. She ultimately finished 2nd at the finale held in May of this year.

This will be only the fourth time Azerbaijan is participating in Junior Eurovision. The country’s best result came from Rustam Karimov’s 7th place finish with “Me and My Guitar” at the contest in 2013.
