2019 was not exactly the best year for Ireland and RTE, but the Irish national broadcaster is already looking forward and in hopes of turning their bad luck for 2020.

RTE has announced that they will once again select the country’s representative through an internal selection, which has been done since 2016.

However, that has resulted in only 1 qualification to the final in 2018, and even a last place finish in the semi-finals in 2019. Yet, RTE are looking on the bright sight and are seeking artists that are willing and wish to represent Ireland on one of the worlds biggest platforms.

The rules

The rules for the submitted songs are of course as usual, that it can’t have been publicly released before September 1st 2019, around the 3 minutes in length, and this time it is only allowed for songwriters and composers to send 1 entry per person. Should RTE receive multiple submissions from the same songwriter or composer, only the first sent entry will be taken into consideration.

RTE also has to possibility of approaching any artist they wish, which the broadcaster might take into consideration as well.

If you’re interested in representing the emerald isle in Rotterdam, then you can approach RTE by filling in the formula on their website by clicking here.

Note, that entries will only be accepted if they are sent in as an MP3 file to the RTE e-mail address Eurovision2020@rte.ie. All this must be done before the deadline which has been set to Friday the 25th of October 2019 18:00 (6:00PM) Irish time.

Below you can watch Sarah McTernan’s performance from this years contest in Tel-Aviv, where she performed her song “22”.

Do #YOU believe that Ireland can get  back on track in the new decade and what do #YOU think about Ireland’s way of selecting their act? As always, join the discussion on our forum by clicking HERE.
