Hungary has once again gone with their traditional national final A Dal – which has been used in order to find the country’s representative every year since the program debuted in 2011 – and has proven to be very successful, but a bit of drama has now occurred with just less than a week before the final takes place.
[AdSense-B]Bad news for one person, but good news for another. The national broadcaster of Hungary (MTVA) revealed that one of the original 8 finalists was under investigation for alleged plagiarism. However, the broadcaster did not reveal who was being accused at the time.
That has changed today, and it has been revealed that Petruska has been disqualified from this year’s Hungarian national final.
Petruska took part in A Dal this year with the song “Help Me Out of Here“, which managed to qualify to the final, from the first semi-final a little over a week ago. He also participated in A Dal in 2016, where he made it all the way to the super-final, before losing out to Freddie and “Pioneer“.
MTVA has therefor decided to completely disqualify Petruska, since his song this year was found guilty to being too similar to the song “White Sky“, which is performed by Vampire Weekend. A song that was released back in 2015, which you can listen right here.
Instead, the highest ranked semi-finalist will instead take part in the grand final, which will still consist of 8 participants.
Gergő Oláh will instead take the spot in the final, with the song “Hozzád Bújnék“, giving him another chance of representing Hungary this year. Oláh has also taken part in A Dal before this year, he participated also in 2015, 2016 & 2017.
The A Dal 2019 final will consist of the following 8 acts, where the winner will represent Hungary in Tel-Aviv:
- Acoustic Planet – “Nyári zápor”
- Gergő Oláh – “Hozzád bújnék”
- Bence Vavra – “Szótlanság”
- The Middletonz – “Roses”
- Gergő Szekér – “Madár, repülj!”
- Bogi Nagy – “Holnap”
- Joci Pápai – “Az én apám”
- Fatal Error – “Kulcs”
7 out of the 8 songs in the final, are performed in Hungarian, so it would seem that we’ll most likely see another Hungarian song for this year as well.
