It seems that Austria will once again be one of the trendsetters for Eurovision, with the Austrian news agency Klein’s Zeitung reporting today that an internal selection will be held next month to choose the artist and song for Tel Aviv.

In an article detailing the retirement of ORF’s head of entertainment Edgar Böhm, one of his last acts in charge will be to help decide the act for 2019, with the suggestion of a “highly charged ballad” or a “dynamic pop duo number”, suggesting that the candidates for Austria have already been narrowed down to a few options.

However, it is not currently known if the song will be revealed in December, or later in the season as in previous years.

Austria’s national broadcaster ORF will hope to build on their successful showing in Lisbon and a reversal in fortunes, with third place earlier this year and only four years after Conchita Wurst’s memorable victory in Copenhagen in 2014.

Earlier this month, we detailed some suggestions for Austria in Tel Aviv. Would we possibly see some of these names in 2019? Time will tell!
