The national broadcaster for Ukraine, NTU, revealed today that the decision for the host city will be disclosed latest by the end of the summer.
5 cities are currently in contention, and out of these 5, 2 have gone further to say which venues they would be held in, these details are as follows:
- Kyiv (Olympiskyy stadium with the Euroclub to be on Maidan Nezalezhnosti )
- Lviv (Arena Lviv)
- Odessa
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Kherson
Ukraine’s head of delegation, Victoria Romanova spoke to local Ukrainian media during a press conference which was held in Kyiv.
Within the next 3 weeks, officials from NTU and EBU, will be travelling to all venues and cities which have expressed an interest in hosting. The first official meeting will be held in early June, with the host city to be announced late summer/early autumn, but early favourites show that Kyiv and Lviv are the favourites amongst the press in Ukraine.
The host city has to meet several requirements, and these requirements are:
- Security
- Hotel capacity
- Transport links
- Infrastructure
- venues
- International travel connections (Kyiv Borispol/Zhulhany) are the 2 main international airports in Ukraine, so this will work in favour for Kyiv, if it were to be the host city.
NTU have said they are honoured and proud to be hosting the 2017 Eurovision song contest, and it will be an excellent opportunity for Ukraine to showcase culture, music (Ruslana is expected to be taking a role, but at the moment, that remains unclear) and heritage to the world.
