Roger Cicero, the German swing performer who became famous for his performance in Eurovision 2007, died earlier this week as a result of a stroke. He was 45.
The performer, who was half-Romanian as the son of pianist Eugen Cicero, saw a rise to fame by being chosen to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki with the last song to feature the German language sent by the country, Frauen regier’n die Welt (Women rule the world). The song finished 19th in the contest with 49 points and preceded the top 2 in the running order that year.
Outside of the contest, Cicero made appearances in two films in 2009; Hilde and the German-language dub of The Princess and the Frog. Elsewhere, he and his band headlined the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July 2010 and over the span of his career released 16 albums, five of which were top 5 in Germany.
