Fifteen years ago Eurovision was held in Copenhagen, her song was Energy and she finished seventh, what is to date Slovenia’s best result. Yes, you guessed it, we’re talking about Nuša Derenda. Since then, she tried to come back to Eurovision several times competing at EMA, but unfortunately she failed to do so. Today we are bringing you interview with her.

Nuša, this will be your fourth EMA after Eurovision in 2001. Do you think that this year you will win?

I have to say that my song, Tip Top, has the potential of an Eurovision song and that I believe in it, but I do not know other songs from EMA, so I can not say whether if I am going to win, but for me it’s certainly an upgrade from Energy.

Can you tell us something about your song?

The song is strong and really perfect for me. I think it is right for me, because on stage I will be able to show my temperament through it. Both, vocals and music are strong. Through it, I can show a story and I think it has a good bit for Eurovision audience, so, yeah, I really believe in my song a lot.

Who do you consider your biggest competition at EMA?

Anyone can be competition, there are a lot of youngsters, many of which I don’t know. I know only Regina and Anja Baš. Everyone can be a surprise. I want the best song to win and then if it’s a newcomer, I’m not against it, just I would like to see the best song win. 🙂

If you win it will be the second time you’ll represent Slovenia. Do you think you will be able to achieve better result and make a new top 10 finish for your country?

Wow, this is a really hard question… If I win, it would be really a big responsibility for me. But it’s hard to say… I’ll know better when I get on stage, when I’ve sang my song several more times, when we practice the choreography, when whole stage performance is formed. Then I will really know, whether this it. Thus, it is difficult to say what would happen if I won. I think if I eventually go there it would deserve to get at least a 5th place. 😉

Tell us a few of your favorite Eurovision songs.

Well, there is a lot of them… In 2011, for the tenth anniversary of my performance at the Eurovision, I had a concert, entire performing Eurovision songs. I’ve performed a total of 24 Eurovision songs and I’m fond of all of them. From Ne partez pas sans by Celine Dion, over Abba, Sertab Erener, Katrina and the Waves, and Johnny Logan, to Charlotte Nilsson… Two more recent, which I sing most often, are of Marija Šerifović’s Molitva and Euphoria by Loreen. Each has some potential and maybe I look more to female vocals, because I can sing these songs and I really enjoy to sing them, and covers from Eurovision generally. It follows me since my childhood.

And finally, would you be kind enough to tell our readers some detail about you that they probably did not know?

Oh, I don’t know what to say. Well, maybe it’s that I love adrenaline sports and I like to drive. Last year they mademy wish come true, and it was to drive a truck, but it was in a driving school. 🙂

Nuša, thank you so much for your time. I’m leaving you to prepare yourself for EMA so you perform the best possible way.

You’re more than welcome. Thanks and best regards to you and your readers.
