It’s been a relatively quiet build-up to Eurovision 2016 so far but the first bit of news regarding potential performers has surfaced today – from our host nation Sweden, no less!
Today, Sveriges Radio announced the eight finalists of Svensktoppen Nästa, a competition organised to discover the next chart success in Sweden. One of these finalists will win the competition and get the opportunity to perform at Sweden’s national selection show for Stockholm, Melodifestivalen 2016. Christer Björkman, Sweden’s head of delegation, was part of the panel that selected the finalists.
The performers vying for a shot at Melodifestivalen glory are (songs in the Svensktoppen Nästa competition in brackets);
- Michael Fannon (Kommer Tid, Kommer Råd)
- Sofia Sandberg-Albihn (The Sunny Side)
- Smajling Swedes (Goosebumps)
- Fanny Nilsson (Alone)
- Jens Sporron (Make a Mistake)
- Miss Winter (The Road)
- Jawone (Främling)
- Laila Adele (Blame It All On You)
Despite the aim of the competition, Laila Adele has already previously performed at Melodifestivalen in 2006, and would mark a decade between entries if successful here.
