Bulgaria have now confirmed they will stay at home once again in 2015.

It’s news that many fans have probably been expecting for a while, but hoped would be false – Bulgaria’s national broadcaster BNT has confirmed to their country’s Eurovision fansite that the country will once again be staying at home rather than travelling to the contest. The South-Eastern European nation was one of the last to decide on its participation next year, pending news on the 2015 budget, but it appears that once again BNT cannot afford to join the continent’s favourite TV show for another year.

As a result, it seems likely we will have 39 participants in 2015, unless a surprise return occurs between now and the announcement of the final participants list sometime before the end of January.

Bulgaria last took part in the contest in 2013. “Samo Shampioni” was the second attempt of Bulgaria’s most successful participants Elitsa and Stoyan, but the song failed to qualify. Bulgaria have only qualified once, finishing fifth with the same artists in 2007, and losing out on a tie-break in 2012.
