Melodifestivalen is arguably Eurovision’s most popular National selection format and every year millions of people tune in to watch this colorful and well produced show. Fans of the contest can follow the show online and every people from around the world enjoy the four Semi shows along with an entertaining Final where Sweden picks their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest.
For 2015, the producers decided to change it up a little and here are the most noticeable changes:
– Reducing total number of participants from 32 to 28. That means that going forward, the four Semi shows will each have one less song with seven songs fighting for the Final Spots. This is the first time the number of participants has been changed since the introduction of the Semi system in 2002.
– Increasing the number of songs in the Final from 10 to 12.
– Andra Chansen a.k.a. The Second Chance round will also undergo a few changes. The songs finishing third and fourth in the Semis will meet again in duels. The winners of each duel will move on to the Final
– There will be a limit of 10 votes per phone line/text message and entry.
Bjorkman, the executive producer of the show said “We try to review and make something new every year. New this year is that 28 acts will compete – so we will see seven artists in each of the semi-finals. That way we’ll create more air in the program with a more lively feeling and giving each song and artist more space”.
For next year’s Melodifestivalen, 2177 songs have been submitted and a special panel will choose half of the entries and the event producers will appoint 13 songs. IN addition, as we previously reported HERE, Kalle Johansson has already won the privilege to take part in the contest.
