On December 19, twelve up-and-coming Italian musical artists will compete in Sanremo Giovani for a place in the big Sanremo Music Festival in February. Eight of the finalists will be selected through live auditions that will take place this Sunday, November 12, in Rome.
Out of 564 applications received this year, RAI has chosen 43 solo artists and 6 groups who will perform live for the Musical Commission, which is chaired by Amadeus, the artistic director of Sanremo.
The 49 competing acts are:

Sanremo Giovani and Area Sanremo
Sanremo Giovani has been held in Sanremo since 1993, in varying formats, as a pre-selection for “newcomers” to reach the Big Artists section of Festival di Sanremo, which will begin its 74th edition on Feburary 6, 2024. While eight finalists will be chosen from the 49 acts named above, another four finalists will be chosen in a separate selection called Area Sanremo later this month.
While the details of the five-day music festival are still being organized, RAI did reveal this week that the opening night of the contest will be co-hosted by Italy’s Eurovision 2023 representative Marco Mengoni. After winning Sanremo in February, Mengoni placed 4th in Liverpool with the song “Due Vite”, and he recently released a new version of the song with lyrics partially in French:
