The Eurovision world probably hasn’t seen such a big surprise for quite a while: The Czech Republic will return to the Eurovision Song Contest 2015! This announcement was officially made by eurovision.tv today.
“Czech Television is happy to be back again in that wonderful competition. After three entries in the previous years we hope to offer Europe a top quality Czech song,” Marketa Stinglova, manager of the International Content Project Center at Česká Televize says.
The Czech broadcaster has decided to pick its representative for Vienna internally. A professional jury will choose the entry out of a pool of five songs that will be commissioned from renowned composers.
It appears the EBU made an effort to bring back the Central European country to Eurovision and eventually succeeded. “We are very excited to have Czech Republic return to the Eurovision Song Contest after 5 years of absence, making the Eurovision Family even more complete for the 60th anniversary edition,” Jon Ola Sand stated.
The Czech Republic has only had three entries to Eurovision so far. None of their attempts from 2007 to 2009 managed to make it to the final. Listen to their latest entry – Aven Romale by Gypsy.cz – here!
Are you happy about this surprising return? Which Czech artist do you want to see competing in Vienna next year?
