Worrying news once again from the Balkans – the national broadcaster of Macedonia, MRT, have been running an online poll since the start of June concerning the country’s participation in Eurovision 2015, with worrying results.
The poll’s three options provide some optimism for Eurovision fans, with the broadcaster asking whether they should select an entry through Skopje Fest (a Macedonian musical event held periodically since 1968 which has selected the Macedonian entrant a few times), internally select an artist and song or withdraw altogether from the contest.
Currently, the third option of withdrawal is the most popular with the public of Macedonia, with over 6,700 people vying for the nation to skip next year. As this is more than both of the ‘stay’ options combined this might make for a compelling reason for the country to withdraw from the 2015 contest in Austria.
Of course, as of today there is no official statement from the broadcaster and they have shown no signs of dissaproval of the contest, but the indication from this poll suggests that Macedonia might be another Balkan state wishing to bow out of Europe’s favourite music event. As the image suggests, Macedonia could be a vital piece of the Eurovision puzzle and it would be a shame to see another country take leave.
