For the first time, Slovenia will opt for an internal selection to choose its Eurovision representative for a second consecutive year. It’s a departure from broadcaster RTV Slovenija’s original plan to introduce a new national final, “Misija Malmö” or Mission Malmö in January 2024.
The broadcaster accepted entries for Misija through mid-November, but instead of announcing the list of four finalists and their songs during a special show on Dec. 11 as planned, the international jury — which was organized to narrow down the four Misija finalists — voted on one artist to be announced next Tuesday at a press conference at the Ljubljana Opera House.
“After last year’s success of the band Joker Out, which once again took Slovenia to the big Eurovision final, the broadcaster decided to choose the Slovenian representative this year in a similar way,” the broadcaster said in a press release.
RTVSLO also shared that the song will be in Slovene once again.
Last year, RTVSLO chose the rock band Joker Out internally. Their song, “Carpe Diem,” quickly became a fan favorite and brought Slovenia its first qualification for the final since 2019. The song placed 21st in the final with 78 points.
