For all of us national season and contests lovers, we have a real treat coming our way from Sweden, the host of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024!
SVT has announced the the commencement of the song submission period for Melodifestivalen 2024, Sweden’s national selection event for the Eurovision Song Contest, starting August 25 until September 15, 2023. The songs that end up shortlisted will have an opportunity to represent this country in the upcoming contest.
SVT has also revealed some noteworthy changes in the 2024 edition. The Semi-final phase has been eliminated, making way for five separate heats. From each heat, the top two acts will directly secure a place in the final competition. In a unique twist, the acts ranked 3rd and 4th in each heat will participate in a runoff vote during the conclusion of the fifth heat, vying for the last two spots in the Grand Final. Moreover, the semi-finals will present a smaller number of songs compared to previous years. Each show will feature six competing songs instead of the customary seven, which collectively results in a total of 30 participating artists.
