Last week, Portugal’s Junior Eurovision entrant Victoria Nicole released her entry for the 2024 contest, “Esperança” (Hope).

The song has lyrics in both Spanish and Portuguese. Victoria herself is credited as the writer of both the music and lyrics, and the music direction and production is credited to Nininho Vaz Maia, Bárbara Tinoco and Feodor Bivol. Some of these names may look familiar if you’ve been following the Portuguese music scene: Vaz Maia was Victoria’s coach on The Voice Kids, who lead her to victory this past July. Tinoco is also a coach on the show, but you might recognise her name from her participations in Festival da Canção, both in 2020 and 2023, where she placed 2nd and 4th respectively.

Victoria will be performing 15th on the night of the contest, between Ukraine’s Artem Kotenko and Ireland’s Enya Cox Dempsey. This will be Portugal’s 9th appearance at Junior Eurovision since 2006, with their best result so far being achieved in 2022 by Nicolas Alves with the song “Anos 70”.
