Norway announced quite a format change for 2025, but that didn’t stop them from hosting a partly of a selection. 9 acts competed tonight in Melodi Grand Prix and in any competition, there is always just one winner.
Melodi Grand Prix 2025
It wasn’t all clean and easy with this year’s Norwegian national final. Originally, 10 songs were meant to participate, but due to a late withdrawal and a decline, no back-up song was selected. Hence why the contest just continued with the 9 other acts.
The 2025 edition saw quite a change from the 2024 edition. No semi-finals were held, and instead, a final was solely held. No need to qualify for the final, no auto-qualified songs, just the 9 selected songs competing in the one show.
With that, here is the full list of tonight’s contestants, sorted by their running order:
- Tone Damli – “Last Song”
- Sondrey – “Vagabond”
- Nora Jabri – “Sulale”
- Wig Wam – “Human Fire”
- LLL – “Parasite”
- Kyle Alessandro – “Lighter”
- Nataleen – “The Game”
- Ladybug – “Hot as Hell in Paradise”
- Bobbysocks – “Joyful”
Of course, music is the focus, so that’s why viewers and audience as well, were treated to multiple guest performances and cameos, from Norway’s past. Including last year’s Norwegian entry Gåte, and even the 2024 Swedish representative Marcus & Martinus who are of Norwegian descendent.
Results
The winner was decided by both a jury and the televote. Unlike the contest format changes, the format for the results remained the same as in 2024. That means that the jury were given 40% of the final outcome, meanwhile the televote stood for 60% of the final outcome.
Starting with the jury results, 10 countries were selected to represent the jury points, the international jury represented in the final were Denmark, Georgia, Luxembourg, Finland, Iceland, Croatia, Australia, Sweden, Ukraine and United Kingdom. After the results were counted, the top 3 of the jury were as follow:
- Kyle Alessandro – “Lighter”: 118 points
- Nataleen – “The Game”: 86 points
- Nora Jabri – “Sulale”: 55 points
Interesting to notice before the televote was revealed, Kyle Alessandro managed to almost pull maximum points from the jury, with only 2 points short. Moving onto the televote results, the combined results were as follow(top 3):
- Kyle Alessandro – “Lighter”: 307 points
- Nataleen – “The Game”: 190 points
- Bobbysocks – “Joyful”: 164 points

Kyle Alessandro has written and produced “Lighter” largely on his own, with help from artist, songwriter and producer Adam Woods. The song is inspired by Kyle Alessandro’s mother, who has recently fought her way through cancer treatment and is now healthy. With the lyrics “I’ll be my own lighter”, Kyle expresses a mantra for finding hope and light, even in tough times in life.
Norway and Kyle Alessandro will now be represented in Basel in the first semi-final, which will take place on the 13th of May.
