It’s near the end of the year and that means that Moldova has finally decided to publicly announce, that they will once again take part in the upcoming contest. Not only have they confirmed their participation, but they’ve also shared details about their national final for 2025.

Selecția Națională 2025

Despite not reaching the final in 2024, Moldovan national broadcaster (TRM) have decided to give it another shot in 2025, and the country will be present in Basel. The selection method will remain the same, as most probably might know, but for good measurements, let us take a look in how it will be done.

The national final will be divided into multiple stages, which will be known as “Etapa NaÈ›ională” and will be done as follows:

  • Examination of submissions
  • Live auditions
  • National final

It is also stated, that TRM has the right to decide whether it wishes to continue with the stated process or not, and has the right to decide the Moldovan representative in a different way.

The submission deadline has been set to December 27th 2024 – 17:00 local time. After the submission deadline has passed, then shall “Etapa NaÈ›ională” commence, with stage 1 being the examination of the submissions, which will last from December 28th 2024 and until January 15th 2025. Right after, stage 2 will commence with the live auditions, which will take place somewhere between January 15th 2024 and February 5th 2025. The live auditions will be broadcasted live and will be decided by a jury, who will each give each song points between 0 and 12. After the conclusion of the live auditions, all votes will be gathered to calculate which 10 auditions scored the most points. The 10 auditions will the highest number of points will then proceed to the 3rd and final stage, the national final.

Finala Națională will then take place somewhere between February 20th and February 28th 2025, where the winner will be decided by both the televote and a jury, each deciding 50% of the outcome. Now, in case of a tie at the end of the voting, the organizing committee with the consultation of the jury, will then decide the winner. This is a very factual and important part of the rules, due to the incident that took place during the 2024 national final, where televote favorite Valeria Pasha tied with the eventual winner Natalia Barbu. After both tied with 22 points, the jury winner was selected as the overall winner.

If any participant feel they have been judged unfairly, at any time in the competition, an complaint can be sent to TRM within a short limited time. Otherwise, any complaints will be seen a void and ignored.

In 2024, Natalia Barbu was selected to represent Moldova, with her song “In The Middle“. This made her the 4th returning artist in a row to represent Moldova, after having done as well in 2007, but unfortunately, she could not replicate what the other before her had done, by qualifying to the final. Instead, the journey finished in the semi-final, after finishing 13th with only 20 points from the televote.

Do #YOU think 2025 will mark the end of returning artists for Moldova and will #YOU be watching Selecția Națională in 2025?
