It’s the calm before the storm, or so it is for most people, but in Luxembourg, a storm has just passed and soon a new one could arrive. The past weekend, auditions took place in Luxembourg, and soon we will learn the songs and names, which will compete in about 2 months time for the ticket to Basel.
Luxembourg Song Contest 2025 – Auditions
The Luxembourgish broadcaster (RTL) has shared a plethora amount of pictures with the public from this past weekend. In these pictures, we see various artists who auditioned for the chance to stand on the stage in Rockhal, in order to perform for viewers, with the grand price of representing Luxembourg in Basel.
Of course, to an auditions, you need to impress certain people, and Luxembourg is doing everything to stay connected with Europe. The members of the jury were:
- Marie Myriam – 1977 winner representing France
- Niamh Kavanagh – 1993 winner representing Ireland
- Eldar Gasimov – 2011 winner representing Azerbaijan
- Poli Genova – 2011 & 2016 representative for Bulgaria
- Diogo Fernandes – 2018 co-executive producer
As it can be seen, Luxembourg are indeed dealing with some heavy hitters, with 3 of the 4 artists in the jury even being contest winners of the past. Whether Luxembourg aims to find a winner shall still be both seen and heard, since only pictures have so far been shared from the auditions, since the songs still remain confidential.
The 5 member jury had to endure what 135 applicants could come up with, with songs from various genres. Something to consider, is that artists this year had to bring their own and original song to present to the jury, unlike last year, where artists were paired with certain songs.
Hopefully that’s something last year’s finalists of Luxembourg Song Contest maybe appreciated, since many of them had even returned, in hope of getting back on stage, for a second shot at representing Luxembourg. Krick, CHAiLD, Angy, One Last Time and Rafa Ela had all returned for this year’s audition.
This is also where the decision has to be made, since only a few of all who has auditioned will be given a returning chance to impress, and then we will know which names we shall see, when the national final takes place on the 25th of January 2025
As a quick reminder, Luxembourg returned to the contest earlier this year with Tali and her song “Fighter“, after having been absent for 31 years. The Grand Duchy managed to qualify from their first ever semi-final participation and in the end finished 13th, with a total of 103 points in the final.
