The second semi-final for Söngvakeppnin is now over on the third Super Saturday of the season. Five acts competed in the second semi-final of Iceland’s national selection and at the end of the night, only three qualified for the final. Per usual, all songs are sung in Icelandic in the semi-finals. Any songs that qualify for the final will then be sung in the intended language for Eurovision.

The show opened with a performance by Yohanna, singing an Icelandic and French cover of “Ne partez pas san moi” and her 2009 entry, “Is It True?”. The show was hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sveinsson, and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, and featured some fun intro packages for us to get to know the artists! The running order was as follows:

1. Dagur Sig – “Flugdrekar”
2. Júlí og Dísa – “Eldur”
3. Bára Katrín – “Rísum upp”
4. Bjarni Arason – “Aðeins lengur”
5. Tinna – “Þrá”
(Click on the songs listed to watch the live performances on YouTube.)

After some interval acts and multiple ad breaks, the qualifiers were announced. Qualifiers are determined entirely by televote in the semi-finals. The qualifiers were announced in random order. In order of being announced, the qualifiers were Júlí og Dísa, Bjarni Arason, and Tinna. That means we must unfortunately say goodbye to Dagur Sig and Bára Katrín.

The three qualifiers tonight will join VÆB, Stebbi JAK, and Ágúst. One of the six acts will represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel in May.

Next week on Saturday, 22 February, we’ll conclude Söngvakeppnin with the final. Which of the six qualified acts will win? You’ll have to tune in to find out next week!
