VÆB have won Iceland’s national final tonight, and will represent the island nation at Eurovision 2025 in Basel!
10 entries took place in the two semi-finals earlier this month, and the Icelandic public chose their top 6 to compete in tonight’s final.
That top 6 performed in the following order:
- Ágúst – “Like You”
- Bjarni Arason – “Aðeins Lengur”
- Júlí & Dísa – “Fire”
- VÆB – “RÓA”
- Tinna – “Words”
- Stebbi JAK – “Set Me Free”
Voting for tonight’s show came in two halves. 50% of the total came from an international jury, while the other 50% came from the Icelandic public. Unlike recent years, there was no superfinal for the top two songs. Instead, VÆB were declared victorious after all the votes had been combined, with Stebbi JAK in second place and Júlí & Dísa in third.
The final scoreboard looked like this:
International Jury | Public televote | Total |
VÆB – 74 | VÆB – 93 | VÆB – 167 |
Júlí & Dísa – 63 | Stebbi JAK – 85 | Stebbi JAK – 142 |
Stebbi JAK – 57 | Júlí & Dísa – 74 | Júlí & Dísa – 137 |
Tinna – 53 | Bjarni Arason – 39 | Bjarni Arason – 83 |
Ágúst – 45 | Ágúst – 23 | Tinna – 75 |
Bjarni Arason – 44 | Tinna – 22 | Ágúst – 68 |
The show was presented by Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sviensson – both hosts of Söngvakeppnin 2020 – and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir – Söngvakeppnin host 2016 and 2024 Eurovision commentator for Iceland. Käärija (Finland 2023) and Hera Björk (Iceland 2010 and 2024) both made appearances as interval acts.
Iceland was represented by Hera Björk at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, with her song “Scared of Heights”. They failed to qualify for the final, placing 15th in semi-final one with 3 points.
