After more than two weeks of delay, The Rising Star will begin airing this Tuesday, October 31st, and will officially select the Israeli representative for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö. The filming of the show has been renewed recently at a lower scale than usual in order to comply with the current security instructions.

The decision came after discussions within KAN in the last few days about whether to cancel the show and select the artist internally, or continue with a smaller-sized season that is better adapted to the current situation. The decision to continue with The Rising Star was made from a financial point of view, considering also that it would be a refreshing break from the nonstop news coverage in the past few weeks.

A few interesting names have been reported to audition for the show:

  • Arik Sinay, a popular 80s musician who competed in the national selection for Eurovision twice, in 1985 and 1987.
  • Yehuda Sa’ado, the winner of the 3rd season of the reality singing competition, which later developed into the current format of The Rising Star.
  • Ido Bartel, an actor and singer who is popular on social media for his covers and mashups.
  • Red Band, a popular folk-rock band that performs using puppets as their representing figures.

Usually, filmed auditions take place in a studio in front of 6 judges, weighing 60% of the decision, and a live audience to make up the other 40%. Since a live audience wasn’t permitted to attend the auditions due to gathering limitations, a dermoscopic jury watched the auditions live from a different location and took the audience’s place.

It is still unclear for how long will this format will continue and whether it will impact the later stages of the selection.
