The wait is finally over for the United Kingdom’s representative at the Junior Eurovision 2023. The group STAND UNIQU3 with the song “Back to Life” will represent the UK in Nice, as announced by Zoe Ball on her morning BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

The girl group is made up of 12-ear olds Yazmin (Newcastle), Hayla (Liverpool) and 13-year old Maisie (Essex). STAND UNIQU3’s selection followed an extensive audition process with their song “Back to Life” written by songwriters Jakke Erixson, Sky Adams and Jack Hawitt. This will be the first time that the UK has sent a group to Junior Eurovision.

The BBC’s Director of BBC Children’s and Education, Patricia Hidalgo noted:

“The Junior Eurovision Song Contest was a real spectacle and success for us last year and we’re very happy that we have a new calendar moment for fans of Eurovision and a brand new girl group for audiences to get behind. We have a great song and high hopes for our brilliant trio, STAND UNIQU3, and we want families everywhere to cheer on Hayla, Maisie and Yazmin and watch them represent the UK in the competition across BBC Two, CBBC and iPlayer.”

Further to the  announcement, it has been revealed that Lauren Layfield and HRVY will return as the broadcaster’s commentators for Junior Eurovision which is due to be broadcast on BBC Two, CBBC and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, 26th November.

Last year’s Contest in Yerevan, Armenia saw the return of the UK with Freya Skye’s ‘Lose My Head’, which finished 5th and won the public vote with 146 points overall.
