Since 2019, Switzerland have selected their entry for the contest internally, which proved to be that far more succesful way for the country. When the Swiss broadcaster (SRG SSR) decided to return to internal selections, it has only yielded results in the final. In 2024, it will be Nemo‘s responsibility to add to that ongoing streak.

Who is Nemo? – Switzerland 2024

Nemo who has been selected to represent Switzerland this year, originates from the town of Biel/Bienne, full name being Nemo Mettler.

The song Nemo will bring to the contest, titled “The Code“, contains some personal background as well, saying:

  • ‘The Code’ is about the journey I started with the realisation that I am neither a man nor a woman. Finding myself has been a long and often difficult process for me. But nothing feels better than the freedom I have gained by realising that I am non-binary.

Despite Nemo‘s young age, the singer has already garnered great success in Switzerland, by releasing a good few amount of EP’s and/or albums, as well as several singles, since 2016.

Nemo has also earned various rewards at the Swiss Music Awards, such as Best Talent(2017), Best Live Act(2018) and Best Solo Male Act(2018). Regarding the singer’s participation at the contest, the following was also shared:

  • It is an incredible honour to be able to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest. This platform offers a huge opportunity to build bridges between different cultures and generations. That‘s why it‘s very important to me as a gender-queer person to stand up for the entire LGBTQIA+ community.“
  • The artistic manifesto of my personal journey; a distinctive piece of music which combines rap, drum n‘ bass and opera.

With all that, Nemo is now set to represent Switzerland in Malmö. Switzerland will be participating in the first half of the second semi-final, which takes place on the 9th of May in Malmö.
