Welcome To Switzerland!
As is tradition, the winning nation are giving the right to host the contest the following year, and with Switzerland’s victory in 2024, we’re of course heading to Switzerland in 2025. There might be a chance that you’re thinking “I wanna join all the fun and take the trip to Switzerland as well”, and in that case, we’ve got #YOU covered!
As we celebrate the selection of the host city, and our next destination, we’ve made a guide and found a few tips that #YOU highly would like to know ahead of time. Bookmark or save this article, because this should be most of the info you’ll need for your planning. Trust us, by now we’ve got great experience ourselves.
First of all, we’ll start with some main things about Switzerland in general, and then we’ll cover the host city, so here are a few quite important/interesting things to know about Switzerland in general:
- The currency of Switzerland is the Swiss Franc. However, you can indeed use Euros, but you’ll be paid back in the Swiss currency.
- Switzerland is NOT in the European Union, but is part of the EFTA(European Free Trade Association) and therefor also part of the Schengen Area. Entrance to the country is open, and only few countries need a visa in order to enter Switzerland.
- The majority of the country, is located within the Alps, hence why the majority of the population live in the Northern parts. About 60% of the country is located within the Swiss region of the Alps.
- Switzerland have 4 official languages, being German which is spoken by about 62,8% of the population, French which is spoken by about 22,9%, Italian which is spoken by about 8,2% & Romansh which is also spoken by about 0,5% of the entire population.
- Switzerland is also known as the “Swiss Confederation“, but also goes under the name “Helvetia“. This is the Latin name of the country. Even the very commonly and heavily used font “Helvetica” is named after the Swiss Latin name.
- Switzerland has one of the highest gunrates per household in all of Europe, and is filled with bunkers. This is due to Switzerland’s neutrality status, that should an invasion ever occur, the nation is always prepared, with the aim to do as much damage as possible, to any army willing to risk an invasion.
These are just some of the very few things about Switzerland, which has so much more to offer. For now, let’s say hi to our next host city Basel!
Welcome To Basel 2025
Basel will have the honor of welcoming all of Europe in 2025, when the 3rd largest Swiss city becomes the 3rd Swiss Eurovision host city. Now of course, how do one get to Basel and how is Basel like? In the lead up to the big reveal, we looked further and further into these things, and here’s is a quick look at the city.
Located in the far North of Switzerland, Basel is a border city to both France and Germany. When arriving in Basel, visitors will travel to EuroAirport, which is actually located within France. Nonetheless, the transportation opportunities are rich, when it comes to arriving to the 2025 host city.
Basel actually has, the largest tram-system in all of Switzerland, meaning that it stretches the furthest of any Swiss city. Pretty much all of Basel, can be reached thanks to the tram, so this will most likely be the go-to way of transportation. It even connects into both Germany and France. If you decide to take the trip to Basel, then remember number 14, cause that’s the number that will bring you to the special place.
Speaking of, the host venue will be the St. Jakobshalle, the area opened all the way back in 1976, but was renovated a few years ago, and it can hold up to 12.400 spectators, making it one of the largest indoor arena’s in all of Switzerland. The area where the venue is located, is a large sportsground, which also holds other sports facilities. Next to the arena, the much larger football stadium can also be found.
The old town of Basel in itself, also features a lot of heritage sites and a plethora secular buildings, churches, museums and so much more, so it appears that Basel is more than ready, to entertain and surprise visitors in 2025.
With all that said, the contest will take place on the 13th, 15th & 17th of May 2025.
