Currently, there’s a lot of attention towards where the next Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Switzerland, but that won’t hinder our focus on the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Sometime last week, it was announced by the Portuguese broadcaster (RTP) that they had found a singer, and now the Spanish broadcaster and this year’s host (RTVE) have also announced their representative.
Portugal in JESC 2025
Portugal has since 2017, remained a steady participant of the contest, with the exception of 2020. Once again in 2024, they will participate in the junior edition, which is set to be held on the Iberian Peninsula in neighboring Spain, and to be exact, in Madrid.
Portugal has in the past few years selected their junior artist through “The Voice Kids” and that remains as their method for 2024. Victoria Nicole is the name of this season’s “The Voice Kids” winner and has therefor earned the right to represent Portugal this year.
The young female singer is currently 13 years old, and is actually of Venezuelan origin, something that could come very handy in Spain. However, she is settled in Portugal, together with both her parents and dog. Since her young age, when she started singing to ABBA songs, sheβs gotten enrolled into a singing academy, been learning to play both the piano and a ukulele, and even writing her own songs. Other than singing, she also enjoys to cook and draw.
Spain in JESC 2025
On the other hand, Spain made use of an alternative way to select their representative, by having a closed audition for children that are eligible to participate. Something that country has done since it returned in 2019. The method has proven to be successful as well, with three top 3 placements since.
This year, the selection has fallen on Chloe DelaRosa, who will represent Spain on home soil. She came on top of the auditions, competing with almost 300 auditioners.
The young singer describes herself as a βcantistaβ, which is a mixture of the words singer and artist, in Spanish. Performing since she was 3 years old, and only in recent years starting recording it as well, where she has performed cover versions of various songs from artists originating from the Spanish speaking parts of the American continent.
Now, both artists will be working on preparing their songs for the competition, when itβs set to be held in November. The songs will be internally selected for both singers, and will be released at a later time.
