Finland might have been about breaking all, or at least some, of the rules this year, but just recently, Yle (Finnish broadcaster) decided to publish the updated rules, when it comes to 2025. Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu – or just UMK – will return as the national as the national selection process for next year as well.
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025
The competition will follow the same process for the upcoming year, as it did for this year. Rules have been published for any interested act, who wishes to compete, and they specify what different criteria must be followed in order to submit an entry.
Most importantly, the submission deadline will be opened on the 19th of August, and will stay open until the 25th of August 2024. Despite the rules being publicly out, interested acts can not submit their entries just yet.
Rules are very standard as usual, which include:
- Song can’t be more than 3 minutes long
- Performers on stage must be 16 years old, prior to May 16th 2025
- The song(s) can be performed in any language
- No more than 6 performers on stage
While some more localized rules, are such as:
- Performer or part of the performers must be located in Finland or with Finnish nationality
- Demo can be submitted by the August deadline, but finished material must be sent by October 14th
- Agreeing to certain fees and more with the broadcaster
Generally very much the standard rule book, when it comes to participating in a national final and possible the Eurovision Song Contest. More details will be revealed at a later point in time. An exact date for the final has not been announced either, but is expected to take place no latter than February 2025.
For 2024, Finland was represented by Windows95man and the song “No Rules“. Finland made it to the final, where it in the end finished on 19th place with a total of 38 points. The televote rewarded the song with 31 points, while the jury only rewarded it 7 points, which was second last in the final of the jury score.
