It is less than one month since Finland chose Norma John to represent their country in Kiev.
One of the competing artists in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) was runner-up Zühlke with her song “Perfect Villain”. We caught up with her after UMK and found out what she thinks about the winning song and a lot more about her life.
Hello Zühlke! At the beginning I wanted to thank you for your time. First of all, can you tell us something about yourself?
Hello! My name is Zühlke and I am a 25-year-old artist from the capital city area of Finland. I participated in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 (UMK) with my song “Perfect Villain”. I placed second in the competition. I’ve been singing and performing since I was a small child. Last year, I signed my first record deal with D8 Music record company and I also released my first album. Now I am working on my biggest dream, to pursue an international music career!
What was your impression about UMK and what do you think about the winning song?
I really enjoyed my journey, it was an amazing and unforgettable experience! I got to meet so many talented, inspiring and wonderful people. I really enjoyed doing the “Perfect Villain” music video and loved to perform on the big stage. I am really happy for Leena and Lasse and the winning song “Blackbird”. The song is dramatic and beautiful and Leena sings it perfectly. Amazing and talented people. I wish them the best of luck!
Do you find it hard to be a singer?
I live for music and I love to sing and perform, more than anything. The music business is hard and it takes a lot of strength and work to be successful. In 2013, I unexpectedly lost my mother. Since she passed away I really realised how important it is to live life to the fullest and do the things that give you the greatest meaning in life. I am willing to give my best for the thing that I love the most, and have a career as a singer.
What are your plans for the near future? A new song, maybe an album?
Yes! I am doing new music at the moment and I hope my new single will be ready soon and released. I am really excited about it!
Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest? Who is your favourite winner?
I am a fan of Eurovision and I have always watched the competition! I will definitely watch it this year too. “Euphoria” by Loreen is one of my favourites, but I have many of them.
Will you try again to compete in UMK and try to represent Finland in Eurovision ?
Maybe someday. I am not sure yet… Never say never!
