Dedicated fans of Ukraine at Eurovision may recognize names like Cloudless and LAUD from past editions. Cloudless was a semi-finalist at Vidbir in 2020, and Laud came 4th in 2018 with the song “Waiting”(see below). And though not a veteran of Vidbir, Michael Soul previously competed to represent Belarus in 2019 with the song “Humanize”.
The long-list contains more than a few new faces, including R&B singer Sofia Shanti and soulful pop vocalist The Blue Artic. Laura Marti‘s submission “Independent” was released 2 weeks ago. You can listen to it below:
The 8 finalists will be announced next week. The Vidbir grand final will take place on Saturday, February 12.
Vidbir has been used to select Ukraine’s act since 2016, when eventual Eurovision champ Jamala won with her song “1944”. Vidbir was not held last year, as Go_A, the winner in 2020, went on to represent their country in 2021 with the song “Shum”.
Is there an artist #YOU are most excited about? Can any you tell me how to pronounce ‘[О]’, the band that competed at Vidbir in 2020? Sound off in the comments below, in our forum, or on social media @ESCUnited.
