As we prepare for the American Song Contest this coming Monday, I was able to sit down with hip-hop artist UG skywalkin from Indiana. Together we talked about his participation in the contest, his music, and how he first learn about Eurovision. Check it out below!

Hello and welcome to ESC United UG skywalkin! I’m super excited to meet with you today and help our readers get to know you better as an artist.

Why don’t you introduce yourself?  My name is UG skywalkin representing Indiana. I’m a hip/pop artist on the American song contest and look forward to this opportunity ahead of me.

And of course, on March 3rd you were announced as the official representative for Indiana in the American Song Contest! How has your life been since the announcement was made?

It has made life better for me on the music side of things. By that I mean the exposure that comes with being attached to a show of this magnitude. It also helps people take your craft more serious and really get to see your pure talent.

For our international readers who might not know much about Indiana, what are some of the things that you love about the state and that make it unique?

Indiana is a great state to live in and people are outgoing and open to building relationships. It’s a good place to raise a family and also build a good successful business for business owners. The music/art  scene is growing rapidly so you can always find something to check out. Also one of our biggest things in Indiana is sports everyone loves sports.

I feel like every artist has an “origin story” – that moment in their life where they realized they had a love for making music. When did you realize your passion for performing and making music?

Well I was originally born in Uganda which is in east Africa so music has always been a love of mine since a kid. The culture is Africa is dance and music so its just in my blood.

What do you feel makes your music unique or different from other artists in the music industry today?

I think everyone is unique in their own way to be honest, with that said I think I’m unique because of my personal journey and influence. Being from Africa and movement to the state I picked up a lot of influences throughout that process.

Is there something that people might be surprised to learn about you? Like something that might not be on your social media or mentioned in interviews before?

I enjoy watching the discovery channel and home renovation shows.

Here’s a bit of a fun question for you – if you were only allowed to listen to one album for the rest of your life, what album would you pick and why?

It would probably be Life after death by biggie smalls. I just think it was a classic and had different vibes on it.

Now let’s talk about the American Song Contest a bit more. How did you first hear about the contest and what motivated you to submit a song?

Heard about it through doing my research on Eurovision and loved the concept of a original song being performed.

What can you tell us about the songwriting process for your ASC entry and how did you know it was the song you wanted to submit?

I submitted this record because of the energy it brings to stage. I love to just let the beat play for a listen and connect with it once I do that I know what pocket to hit.

And you mentioned you know a bit about the parent show Eurovision. How did you first encounter the Eurovision Song Contest and how closely do you follow the event?

Honestly I think it was on YouTube. It popped up as something I should watch and that’s what I did.

For our readers who want to connect with you ahead of or after the contest, where can they find you and your music?

You can find me as UG skywalkin on all social media outlets and DSPs.

Alright, one final question for you – is there a final message you’d like to share with our readers?

I appreciate all the support I’m getting from this opportunity.  I would tell everyone never give up on your vision just stay consistent and your time will come.

Well UG skywalkin, I want to thank you again for your time today and we wish you the best of luck in the American Song Contest moving forward!
