The second annual Türkvizyon Song Contest will be held in Kazan, Tatarstan this year. Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, and is Russia’s eighth most populated city.
Türkvizyon will have that same format as last year with a final and one semifinal. The semifinal will take place on November 19th, where the top 12 countries will advance to the final taking place on November 21st.
Unlike Eurovision, Türkvizyon allows both countries and regions to participate. This year, they expect to have over 20 countries and regions. Currently, Tatarstan, the Altai Republic, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan have confirmed their participation. Last month, Crimea announced that it will not participate this year because of the ongoing Ukraine/Russia conflict.
The first Türkvizyon was held in December 2013 in Eskişehir, Turkey, with 24 participants. Azerbaijan won with Farid Hasanov’s entry Yaşa.
