For a country whose population sits just shy of 10 million, it’s always impressive seeing just how much support the annual Melodifestivalen competition recieves. This year has been no different, with SVT revealing that over 13.5 million votes were cast in the contest’s grand final on Saturday – at least one vote per Swede!

The full voting results of course also show that Robin Bengtsson was by no means an overwhelming favourite for the competition, with the lowest amount of votes for a semi-final winner and gaining almost 200,000 votes fewer than Nano’s “Hold On”, who ultimately finished as runner-up.

Some interesting points include the fact that Owe Thörnqvist saw by far the biggest amount of second round votes in the semi-finals, with over 158,000 votes cast in the second round, and that the duel between Lisa Ajax and Axel Schylström in Andra Chansen was decided with a margin of roughly 6,000 votes.
