The events surrounding Spain’s election of a Eurovision participant for this year, held on February 11th, have been highly publicised and criticised by Spanish media, fans and observers.

It seems that the crisis has not been fully averted yet, and now a new twist in the story plunges Spain further into chaos; yesterday the Spanish head of delegation Federico Llano resigned from his post with immediate effect.

As a result, the person tasked with masterminding Spain’s participations in Eurovision will see a fresh face for the first time in more than 15 years, with elections due to take place shortly. It is understood Llano has not left his other roles at RTVE.

The Spanish national final caused major controversy as many felt the juries had acted in an unfair manner, with the end result disregarding the Spanish public vote in favour of Manel Navarro. Many have also perceived a failure of RTVE to rectify or control the situation, with even members of Spanish government calling for an investigation into how the selection was conducted.

Elections for the new Eurovision team will begin shortly.
